A man who urinated outside a pub door, smashed a window and had to be restrained with Pava spray has been fined £500.

Matthew Ian Gaynor, of Rosehill Mews, Douglas, admitted being drunk and disorderly and was also banned from entering licensed premises and buying or being sold alcohol for two months.

Prosecuting advocate Rebecca Cubbon told the court that police were called to the Royal Hotel, Atholl Street, Peel, on November 2.

Bar staff said that a window had been smashed and pointed out Gaynor as the suspected culprit.

The 35-year-old was said to be with two women and be unsteady on his feet and smelling of alcohol.

While being arrested he told police that he had done nothing wrong and said: ’I’m not getting in the van. I’ll resist if you try.’

Pava spray was eventually used as he was put in the van where he continued to be abusive and threatening.

When interviewed later, he denied causing damage to the window.

However, CCTV footage was viewed which showed Gaynor urinating near the pub door then throwing a bottle through the window, which landed near some customers inside.

The court heard that since the incident Gaynor had visited the pub and paid for the damage which had resulted in the owner declining to make a complaint.

Defence advocate Paul Glover asked for credit to be given for his client’s guilty plea.

’He wishes to apologise to the police and the pub owner. He is incredibly sorry,’ said the advocate.

The court heard that Gaynor is currently paying a fine from June at a rate of £100 per month.

High Bailiff Jayne Hughes also ordered Gaynor to pay £125 prosecution costs.

He will pay the fine and costs at a rate of £100 per month at the conclusion of the other
