Police have issued a warning to beware cold callers.

The Constabulary said it had had reports that someone purporting to be from Her Majesty’s Revenue and Customs (HMRC) had telephoned an island resident demanding payment of outstanding owed money.

Credit card details were requested to obtain payment.

Fortunately, the person contacted refused to provide these details and the call was ended.

A police spokesman said: ’We have said it before, but never divulge your personal banking or credit card details to cold callers.

’Neither the Isle of Man Income Tax department nor HMRC make such phone calls in this manner.’
