Police have warned people about a spate of puppy scams.

They said: ’Looking to add some extra fluff to your family?

’Scrolling Facebook to find your newest addition may seem convenient, but it doesn’t always lead to the happiest of endings.’

The police have had a number of reported puppy scams recently and as a result are asking people to stay alert.

They shared a number of ’top tips’ for avoiding these scams:

l Find out if the seller is really on the island? Do you have mutual friends? Do they have photos here?

l Don’t hand over any money until you’ve seen the puppy in person first.

l Ask for someone else’s opinion. It’s easy to be blind-sighted by puppy love!

They have asked for anyone who has spotted a scam to report it to them.

To do so, visit to www.ocsia.im and follow the instructions.

They added: ’If you’ve lost money, make sure to also contact your bank.

’If you’re still not sure, you can always head to the ManxSPCA and adopt a doggy in need of a new home.’
