One of Poland’s most wanted sex offenders has been arrested after arriving at Heysham on a ferry from the Isle of Man.

Marian Dorobek, 68, - described as a ’very dangerous man’ by the island’s Chief Constable - was arrested by police on Wednesday following a tip-off he was on the ferry due to arrive at Heysham at 12.15pm.

Dorobek is wanted in Poland after being convicted of rape and child sex offences.

He was transferred to HMP Wandsworth and will appear at Westminster Magistrates Court where Lancashire officers will be instructed to complete the extradition of Dorobek to Poland.

The Polish Government has emailed police praising and thanking them for their swift intervention and support.

Isle of Man Chief Constable Gary Roberts tweeted: ’Some excellent work by @iompolice officers to trace and identify a very dangerous man.’

A spokesman for Lancashire Police said: ’The constabulary received information that he was on a ferry that was due to arrive at Heysham Port at 12.15pm.

’This gave us very limited notice of the impending arrival and checks with the National Crime Agency and Polish authorities confirmed he was wanted and that a European Arrest Warrant was being applied for. ’
