A 29-year-old man will do 150 hours of community service after he admitted trying to post criminal property.

Liam Wilson, of Hillside Avenue, Douglas, was sentenced by Deemster Graeme Cook at the Court of General Gaol Delivery on Friday.

Prosecutor Barry Swain said that on September 3 Wilson went to the FCX Cargo Centre at Ronaldsway with a large parcel.

He attempted to ship it to an address in Stoke-on-Trent but aroused the suspicions of staff who when they questioned what was in the package he said ’cards and stuff’.

Staff opened the package and discovered a whey protein tub, so called the police. Officers later found cash totalling £2,510.

Wilson was later arrested and gave a no comment interview. In his basis of plea, he said he had tried to post the parcel, but had not been involved in packaging it.

He also said that while he believed it contained criminal property, he had not questioned it.

Deemster Cook told Wilson that has ’become involved in something rather foolish’ but praised him for finding work since the incident happened.

He sentenced Wilson to 150 community service, which he will need to complete over the next 12 months.
