A 24-year-old Castletown woman has been sentenced to probation after admitting assaulting a police officer.
Amy Christian-Winczkowski, of Y Vaarney Yiarg, was given the 18 month probation order as a direct alternative to 12 weeks custody.
She was also ordered to pay £250 compensation to the police officer and £125 prosecution costs.
We previously reported how, on November 26 at 11.20pm, police were called to the Villa Marina arcade on Loch promenade after a report of a man and woman arguing there.
When they arrived they found Christian-Winczkowski arguing with a man. She was said to be slurring her words and was unsteady on her feet.
She was said to have been obnoxious and swore at officers as they spoke to her.
When told she was being arrested Christian-Winczkowski said: ’I’m not getting lifted.’
As police tried to arrest her she struggled kicking out and hitting a police woman on the thigh.
She was put on the ground but continued kicking out again striking the same officer.
She was put in a police van but as she was taken to police headquarters her anger continued as she was said to have banged her head against a cage door.
The court heard that Christian-Winczkowski has no previous convictions.
A basis of plea was handed in by her advocate Ian Kermode saying that the kicking had been reckless rather than a deliberate attempt to kick police.
Mr Kermode told the court: ’Yes Ms Christian-Winczkowski was intoxicated but its fair to say the court is aware of the relationship issues that were prevailing at the time.
’When police arrived and attempted to assist she was arrested and resisted in trying to break free.
’Since the commission of the offence she has taken a number of steps to address her personal difficulties. She has been referred to Motiv8 and has drastically reduced her alcohol consumption.
’She is involved with a local charity and has attended a victim support group in respect of domestic issues. She has had a number of meetings with the police domestic violence officer.
’There have been two proceedings, both discontinued, over alleged assaults on her by her ex-partner. She accepts the relationship is over and it was abusive and destructive.
It led to her abuse of alcohol as a coping mechanism.’
Christian-Winczkowski was also banned from licensed premises for six months.
