A woman who stole a bottle of wine has been put on probation.
Christine Metaxas, of Waverley Terrace, Ramsey, has 14 previous convictions for similar offences.
The 49-year-old was handed the 12-month probation order by High Bailiff Jayne Hughes to run alongside two suspended sentences previously imposed.
Metaxas stole a £6 bottle from the Co-op in Christian Street in Ramsey on March 15.
Defence advocate Jane Gray said: ’It was fairly low value and had been returned.
’Ordinarily this offence would be at the lowest scale however Ms Metaxas has 14 convictions for theft, most of a similar nature and there have also been breaches of suspended sentences and court orders.
’She says it was a spur of the moment decision to take the item.’
She added: ’The probation report raises issues over alcohol dependence and mental health issues currently being investigated.
’She does now seem to be seeking help and acknowledging she does have issues.’
High Bailiff Mrs Hughes told Metaxas: ’You are clearly an intelligent woman from the references with something to offer society if you could address the issues that have plagued you.
’Take advantage of the opportunity that is being offered by probation.’
