A 31-year-old handyman has been fined £500 for possessing £100 worth of cannabis.

Stuart James Allen, of Queen’s Pier Road, Ramsey, admitted the offence, claiming that he used to the drug to combat severe headaches and heart problems.

A second charge of cultivating cannabis was withdrawn by the prosecution.

The court heard how police executed a search warrant at Allen’s home on July 30. Allen showed police where he had some cannabis which was later weighed at five grams.

He was interviewed and told police he had found a person on Snapchat who was selling cannabis and had arranged to meet them to buy it.

Defence advocate Louise Cooil said: ’Mr Allen has been a user of cannabis. He directed the police to the drug. He was not hanging around letting them search. He uses it due to severe headaches and heart problems it assists with but he intends to go to his GP.’

Magistrates also ordered Allen to pay £125 prosecution costs which he will pay, along with the fine, at a rate of £50 per week.
