A Ramsey man has admitted headbutting his cousin during a pub row.

Craig Brown, aged 26, of Parliament Street, pleaded guilty to disorderly behaviour on licensed premises and will be sentenced on Thursday, September 26.

Prosecuting advocate Barry Swain told the court how Brown was drinking in the Stanley hotel in Ramsey on May 11 with his partner and his cousin.

Brown and his partner left the pub but a short time later Brown was said to have returned.

CCTV footage showed Brown confronting his cousin, while appearing angry and animated.

Staff at the pub said they heard the man tell Brown: ’I never said anything, I didn’t do it.’

Brown then thrust his head forward making contacting with the man’s nose which caused him to stumble backwards, holding his nose.

However when police arrived the victim said he did not wish to make a complaint.

Swelling

The man suffered swelling and reddening to his nose but refused an offer of medical assistance.

Police identified Brown from the CCTV footage in the pub.

He was interviewed on June 4 and told police he had drunk about eight pints of lager, describing himself as ’quite drunk’.

He said it had been the anniversary of a family death on the night of the incident.

Brown said that he believed his cousin had told his partner to leave him to be with him so he lost his temper.

He accepted headbutting him.

The court heard that Brown has only one matter on his record, a conditional discharge in the UK for threatening behaviour.

Mr Swain said that costs for CCTV footage would be £79.

Advocate Kate Alexander asked for a probation report to be compiled before sentencing.
