A teenage driver was caught speeding at 96mph in the 40mph zone at Hillberry, in Onchan.
Jarred Matthew Baxter Ingham, of Top Road, Crosby, was clocked by police on July 26.
The 17-year-old appeared before magistrates for sentencing last week.
As an ’R’plate driver, Ingham’s maximum speed in unrestricted areas is limited to 50mph.
Prosecuting advocate Rebecca Cubbon told the court that officers were performing speed checks with a handheld device at 8.15pm on July 26 when they saw Ingham approaching.
He was stopped after registering 96mph and told police: ’My mistake completely, I’m stupid.’
Ingham pleaded guilty in court to speeding and exceeding the 50mph limit for an ’R’ plate driver.
The court heard that Ingham has no previous convictions.
Defence advocate Kate Alexander handed in references for her client and asked for credit to be given for his immediate guilty pleas.
’He has no explanation for why he was driving so quickly,’ said the advocate.
’He knows he’s going to pay a high price for his heavy right foot.’
Ingham was banned from driving for four months and was fined £560.
He was also ordered to pay £50 prosecution costs.
Magistrates also extended his ’R’ plate period by two years.
Ingham must pay the fine and costs by the end of November.
