Two men have been jailed for 30 days for breaching Covid regulations following a car crash.

Mark Peter Richards, aged 34, and Dewayne Alan Giles, 32, were arrested after their car overturned on the Mountain Road when police discovered they were from different households.

Richards, of Waverley Terrace, Ramsey, and Giles, of Close Caarjys, Ramsey, pleaded guilty to breaching Covid rules.

Prosecuting advocate Hazel Carroon told the court that police were called on January 17 to a road traffic collision between the Creg-Ny-Baa and Kate’s Cottage.

Officers discovered a vehicle on its roof. Fire and ambulance crews attended.

The driver and passenger were arrested when they gave separate home addresses.

Richards said during his interview with police that he had been travelling to Douglas to collect essential medicines his partner needed and was aware of the rule about not mixing with other households.

Giles told officers he had wanted to buy essential items he couldn’t get in Ramsey.

Mrs Hughes sentenced both to 30 days in custody.

She told them: ’Your actions not only caused risk to each other, but to the emergency services.’
