A 25-year-old Douglas man has been fined £200 after an angry rant in Jaks bar over a drinks bill.

Gage Humphries, of Alder Road, swore at staff there telling them: ’I’ll kill you. I’m going to mess you up. I know what I’m capable of. I’ll take you all on.’

He admitted an offence of ing drunk on licensed premises but was told by High Bailiff Jayne Hughes: ’You should perhaps be thankful you are not charged with a more serious offence.’

Prosecutor Rachael Braidwood told the court how Humphries ordered a round of drinks at Jaks on March 31.

He was told the cost but then walked away with the drinks without paying.

Bar staff followed him and asked him for the money but Humphries was then said to have got close the barman, who said he thought Humphries was going to bite his ear.

Humphries swore saying: ’I’ll kill you.’ and the staff member said that they used a pre-emptive strike as they thought Humphries was going to attack them.

He was escorted out of the pub by security staff and told to wait outside as the police had been called.

Humphries said he was leaving but the bouncer then put his hand on his shoulder to stop him going.

This sparked more anger from Humphries as he told the bouncer: ’I’m going to mess you up. I know what I’m capable of. I’ll take you all on.’

He was eventually restrained on the ground before being arrested.

At police headquarters Humphries was said to have continued being aggressive and argumentative so he was put in a cell.

Once sober, Humphries was interviewed and he could not remember any of his actions.

He apologised and offered to pay for the drinks and apologise to Jaks staff personally.

Defence advocate Stephen Wood said that this was his client’s first time before a court.

’He is extremely embarrassed,’ said the advocate. ’He had been on a works retirement do and accepts he consumed a quantity of alcohol and his recollection is impaired. Nonetheless he has pleaded guilty as charged and wishes to apologise.’

Mrs Hughes also ordered Humphries to pay £125 prosecution costs.
