Residents from a block of flats in Ramsey were evacuated on Tuesday following a fire in an electrical meter box.

Fire crews were called out at 7am to a report of smoke issuing from the meter box at The Towers, in Brookhill Road.

The fire was out and all the residents outside of the building on arrival.

Manx Utilities isolated the affected circuit and made the electrics safe.

A Fire Service spokesman said: ’In this instance, the smoke detectors in the building gave early warning to the residents that smoke was present, which enabled all residents to leave the building safely.’
