Fire crews helped evacuate people from a house fire in Ramsey.

Ramsey, Laxey and Douglas fire crews were called out to a report of a house fire on Bircham Avenue Close at 12.20pm today (Sunday).

On arrival, the officer in charge of the first appliance quickly deployed a breathing apparatus team to fight the fire on the first floor.

Four breathing apparatus teams were deployed in total.

Crews helped residents escape the fire which was extinguished using high-pressure hose reels from the front and the rear of the property. No one was injured.

Once extinguished, crews checked for hot spots using thermal imaging cameras with the crews remaining in attendance approximately two hours.

Station officer Matt Tyrer said: ’Smoke alarms save lives. Smoke alarms that are properly installed and maintained play a vital role in reducing fire deaths and injuries.

’If there is a fire in your home, smoke spreads fast and you need smoke alarms to give you time to get out.’
