Ramsey lifeboat was launched to help in the rescue of a lost yachtsman.

The Ruby Clery was launched at 5.15pm on Friday to assist a yacht in difficulty due to poor visibility and having no working navigational equipment.

The alarm had been raised with the Coastguard at about 3pm to search for the 24ft yacht which had left Maryport harbour that morning on passage to Barrow. It was located by the rescue helicopter at about 5.50pm eight miles south east of Whithorn and was towed to Kircudbright by the Workington lifeboat.

The single crew member was uninjured.
