An RNLI lifeboat was launched to help a 30-foot yacht which had suffered engine failure on Saturday.

Following a radio call to the Coastguard, Port St Mary RNLI volunteers went to Kallow Point.

The volunteer crew of the inshore lifeboat Spirit of Leicester were paged at 3.42pm and launched at 3.50pm into a moderate state of sea and a west south west wind of force 3 to 4.

Upon leaving the harbour the casualty was quickly identified and the lifeboat crew were on scene at 3.53pm.

Having established that the four crew on the vessel were not injured, the helm assessed the situation and a tow line was established and made way back to the inner harbour.

Port St Mary RNLI helm Morgan Guy said: ‘The crew of the yacht had a working VHF radio which meant as soon as they were in trouble, they could call for help.

‘The yacht made port without incident at 4.15pm under the supervision of the volunteer crew who assisted in making a secure berth on the inner harbour of Port St Mary.

‘The RNLI always advises anyone who requires assistance, or who sees someone else in trouble to call 999 and ask for HM Coastguard.’
