A 51-year-old man has been fined £350 after rowing with Bus Vannin staff at the bus station in Douglas.
Karl Clifford Quilliam, of Meadow Crescent, Braddan, ended up being arrested and in court admitted being drunk and disorderly.
Prosecuting advocate Barry Swain told the court that police were called to Lord Street bus station on September 27 at 12.15am.
Quilliam was said to be refusing to leave after being denied access to a bus due to his abusive behaviour towards the Bus Vannin duty manager.
He was said to be argumentative and aggressive and swearing as he shouted: ’I’m not answering your questions.’
Police physically removed him from the area to speak with him and he was told numerous times to calm down.
However, Quilliam’s bad behaviour was said to have continued with him slurring his words and being unsteady on his feet.
He was swearing and pointing at officers telling them where to go and saying: ’I’m not drunk and I’m not disorderly.’
Quilliam was then said to have become rigid as police tried to move him and he was eventually taken to the ground and restrained.
Defence advocate Kate Alexander asked for credit to be given for her client’s guilty plea and said that he had apologised to police and Bus Vannin.
Ms Alexander said: ’Mr Quilliam’s position is he was having a discussion with Bus Vannin.
’He may have come across as robust.
’He has not drunk since the incident,’ said the advocate. ’This has put him off drinking entirely. He has held his hands up and accepted his poor behaviour.’
High Bailiff Jayne Hughes told Quilliam: ’Robust discussions with bus staff at 12.15am while intoxicated generally don’t end well.’
He was also ordered to pay £125 prosecution costs which he will pay, along with the fine, at a rate of £150 per month.
