Police have received 'rude comments' from members of the public while carrying out Covid-19 duties.

A patrol officer was said to have received verbal abuse while engaging with people and offering advice about social distancing and suitable exercise.

A police spokesman said: ’They were really concerned that despite their best efforts some are not taking this seriously and on some occasions they were getting rude comments directed towards them.

’Please listen to guidance and follow rules. We have had to report people for Covid offences today, we are doing this to save lives.’

Those who are reported can get summoned to court and get a £10,000 fine or three months in jail.

’It should not come down to fines and sentences though, people should want to save lives. Please think of the Island and its people. Stay home and save lives,’ the spokesman added.
