Scamsters are targeting people in the Isle of Man.
They are using automated telephone calls apparently from the online retailer Amazon.
The Office of Cyber-Security and Information Assurance (OCSIA) says that the call asks recipients to ’press 1’ to cancel Amazon Prime.
In fact, pressing 1 connects the person to a bogus Amazon agent who will attempt to coerce the individual into giving remote access to their computer and/or mobile devices.
They will then proceed to attempt to get the individual to access their online or mobile banking while they are in control of the device.
An OCSIA spokesman said: ’Anyone who has received a call of this nature should immediately report this to their bank who will take measures to protect their accounts.’
He added that affected by this scam should report it using the form at www.gov.im/cybersecurity.
