This is the amazing moment a dog called Scruff was given oxygen with a special pet mask after a car burst into flames.

His owner, the motorist, was also given oxygen after the drama on Hills Meadow Industrial estate, Douglas.

These photos were supplied by the fire service.

Sub Officer Matt Tyrer said fire crews were mobilised at 1.14pm yesterday to a report of a vehicle fire.

He said: ’Upon arrival crews were faced with a car well alight and quickly ascertained that nobody was inside the vehicle.

’A breathing apparatus team was deployed with a hose reel to extinguish the fire, thought to have been caused by a possible electrical fault.

’Crews administered oxygen therapy to the vehicle driver and his dog named “Scruff”.

’Crews were able to give the dog oxygen therapy using the pet oxygen masks that we carry on our major appliances, kindly donated by Paws for Therapy.’

It is understood lucky Scruff and his owner were otherwise unharmed after the shock and distress of the incident.
