The sentencing of a Foxdale man who had a stun gun hidden at his home has been delayed to allow time for testing of the gun.
Blayne Mason Niall Brian Quinn, of Archallagan Terrace, previously pleaded guilty to an offence of possessing a prohibited article and was due for sentencing on Thursday last week.
However, the 20-year-old’s advocate, Stephen Wood, said that this had been the first time that he had represented Quinn and there was a suggestion that the stun gun was of a very low voltage.
Mr Wood said that Quinn had told him he bought the stun gun while on holiday on a Spanish island for a very low price and if it was of very low voltage this would be relevant to sentencing.
’If it could lay someone low for 20 minutes as a gibbering wreck on the ground then that is much more serious,’ said the advocate.
’But if it is of limited voltage and doesn’t have a significant effect, then this is not as significant an offence.’
Mr Wood said it was not clear how Quinn had managed to get the gun through customs.
Prosecuting advocate Roger Kane said: ’There is an analogy, it doesn’t matter how sharp a particular knife is when it comes to a bladed article.’
We previously reported that police executed a search warrant at Quinn’s home in Foxdale on May 5.
During the search they found the stun gun in a false compartment in a chest of drawers.
Magistrates agreed to adjourn sentencing until July 22 to allow time for the gun to be tested.
Bail continues in the sum of £500 with conditions to live at his home address and not leave the island without court consent.
