Police are urging motorists to take extra care on the island’s roads.
Overnight there were several trees down across the island including near the Santon Motel and Barregarrow in Kirk Michael.
A tree also came down blocking the New Castletown Road between Quarterbridge and Anagh Coar.St Mark's Road, Braaid, and Upper Rencell Hill, Laxey, were both blocked for a time by fallen trees.And the gales ripped off some of the cladding of the former Whitestone garage in Ballasalla.Sergeant Gary Heaton said: ’There is still some debris on the roads so please take extra care this morning when driving and report any fallen trees to us and we will liaise directly with the DoI to get them cleared.’
This morning’s 8am sailing of the Ben-my-Chree from Douglas to Birkenhead has been cancelled due to the high winds.
The Met Office has issued a yellow weather warning.
It says it will be ’very windy’ today, with gale or severe gale force northwesterlies giving gusts of 60 or 65 mph in places, possibly causing some minor damage and disruption.
The wind will begin to ease late in the afternoon.
