Farmers fear for the safety of their livestock after sheep were severely injured and killed in a dog attack, police say.

A flock of sheep that were grazing near Blue Point in Andreas, which is popular with dog walkers, were subjected to an ’animal attack’ that killed one sheep and left others with ’nasty’ facial injuries.

The flock, which was targeted between 4pm on February 26 and 8.30am the following day, consisted of a number of the pedigree breed, Beltex. Police said it appeared that the sheep had been backed into a corner of the field they were in.

The sheep that was killed had severe injuries to its throat and jaw.

’The farm owner is understandably very anxious and upset about the incident, which has given rise to concern amongst other farm owners who now fear for the safety and wellbeing of their own livestock,’ a police spokesman said. The incident is being investigated by Constable Chris Butler at the police headquarters in Douglas.

The reference number is 97/934/20.
