A shop worker from St John’s was this week fined £700 after throwing a glass at her boyfriend in a pub.

Abigail Francesca Burden, of Tynwald Close, admitted disorderly behaviour on licensed premises.

The row continued outside the Manx Legion in Peel as the couple were said to have thrown their phones at each other.

Prosecutor James Robinson told the court how the pair were in the pool room at the Legion in Douglas Street on February 9 at 10.50pm.

Burden was said to have thrown a shot glass at her boyfriend during an argument while he was said to have responded by throwing part of a pint of Guinness at her.

He went to leave the pub but Burden then pushed him into the foyer and grabbed him by the neck.

Burden’s boyfriend was then said to have pushed her causing her to fall over.

Once on the street the pair were said to have thrown their phones at each other as the row continued in the Market place. Police arrived and they were both arrested.

When interviewed Burden admitted disorderly behaviour on licensed premises and provoking behaviour.

Her boyfriend has denied being drunk and disorderly and provoking behaviour and will be dealt with separately.

The court heard that Burden’s only previous conviction was for speeding in 2013 and that she has three unrelated cautions.

A probation report said that Burden was very embarrassed and ashamed about her behaviour.

The report said that Burden (pictured) was not a heavy drinker, only drinking once a fortnight and because of this, she became intoxicated very quickly.

Defence advocate Kate Alexander said: ’Ms Burden has admitted she started the argument with her partner. They are still together.’

High Bailiff Jayne Hughes also ordered Burden to pay £50 prosecution costs.
