A 40-year-old shoplifter has admitted a string of thefts.

Stephen Gerrard Arrowsmith, of Taubman Terrace, Douglas, stole alcohol on five separate occasions.

Prosecuting advocate Rachael Braidwood told the court that Arrowsmith had first stolen a bottle of champagne worth £35 from Shoprite in Port Erin on November 2 last year.

He then stole a bottle of wine worth £9 on February 9, cider worth £3 on February 11, wine worth £9.99 on February 22, and wine worth £6 on March 3, all from Spar in Union Mills.

The court heard that Arrowsmith was sentenced to a community service order in July last year for another theft but the service has since asked for that order to be revoked due to him being unable to complete it on medical grounds.

Defence advocate James Peterson asked that a probation report be completed before sentencing takes place for all the offences.

The case was adjourned until October 1 and Arrowsmith was granted bail in the sum of £500 with a condition that he keep in contact probation.
