People are being advised to stay at home as snow made driving conditions increasingly difficult.

Emergency services have attended several road traffic collisions after snow began to fall across the island from late morning.St Ninian’s Road up to the traffic lights and Johnny Wattersons Lane are particularly bad with numerous vehicles having to be left in situ, police said.They were called to deal with a one vehicle collision at PC World in Braddan. The Mountain Road, Queen’s Promenade, Ramsey and Ballig Bridge to Douglas Road Corner have all been closed due to the wintry weather.Crellins Hill in Douglas is also closed. Empire Terrace and Ballaquayle Road, are being closed due to ice and snow. Quarterbridge Road was closed to traffic for a time to enable access in both directions for emergency vehicles but has since reopened northbound..Police urged people to make only necessary journeys, as several roads are closed and the temperatures are dropping.

‘Stay at home unless it is absolutely necessary to travel today,’ they warned.
