Motorists are warned to take care on the island’s roads today (Tuesday) in the wake of Storm Ophelia.
The Department of Infrastructure has cleared some 130 trees in the last 17 hours but the police is warning motorists there is still a lot of debris on the roads.
A number of roads remain closed today: Saddle Road - Ballaughton Manor Hill to Vicarage Road; Tromode Road - Johnny Watterson Lane to Douglas Avenue; Mount Rule Road - Closed between Ballamillaghyn to Mount Rule Junction;
Queens Street (Outside Saddle Pub).
Sergeant Alan Shimmin said: ’Officers have patrolled the main arterial routes around the island and have reported them clear at this time.
’It is anticipated that further trees / branches will be discovered on some minor roads, if that is the case please contact the DOI: @iominfra helplines 850000 or 672000.
’I am grateful to the public for heeding our advice regarding not making unnecessary journeys, this has allowed the police and our partners to manage the results of the adverse weather conditions safely and efficiently as possible and there have not been any reported injuries as a result.’
