A taxi driver from Douglas has been fined £1,050 for having six vehicles with no tax.

Martin Conde Robert Moore, of Port e Chee Avenue, was also ordered to pay £50 prosecution costs by magistrates.

The 40-year-old represented himself in court and admitted the six counts of having no vehicle licence.

Prosecuting advocate Roger Kane told the court how a Ford Mondeo, two Range Rovers, a Mercedes S320, a Volvo, and a Citroen Berlingo, had all been found on Port e Chee Avenue.

The tax on all the vehicles had expired.

Moore told the court that he bought and sold cars as a secondary living but all the vehicles had been seized and were in a government pound.

He offered to pay at a rate of £50 per month saying that the taxi industry had been decimated and the income from it had been slashed by two thirds due to declining nightlife and Bus Vannin competing.

However, magistrates ordered that the fines and costs be paid at a rate of £100 per month.
