A Crosby teenager has admitted driving while under the influence of cannabis.

Emily Lauren Edge, of Main Road, also pleaded guilty to possession of class C drug Alprazolam.

She will be sentenced for both offences on Tuesday, February 19 after a probation report has been prepared.

Prosecutor Rebecca Cubbon told the court how, on August 13 at 2am, police saw Edge, who is 18, driving erratically.

She was stopped by officers on South Quay, in Douglas.

A smell of cannabis was coming from the car and police found the drug as well as the prescription drug Alprazolam inside the vehicle.

A breathalyser test proved negative but a medical examiner at police headquarters took a sample of blood after suspicions that Edge was under the influence of drugs.

The blood test resulted in a reading of five micrograms.

There is no legal limit in the Isle of Man but in the UK the limit, which can be used for guidance here, is two micrograms.

Lethargic

In a separate incident, police were called to Edge’s Crosby home on September 12 due to concerns for her health.

She was said to be slurring her words, had glazed eyes and was acting lethargically.

Edge was taken to Noble’s Hospital and a search of her address found a pot containing six tablets, later identified as Alprazolam.

She was interviewed by police officers and admitted in a prepared statement that the pills were hers and that they had not been prescribed to her.

Defence advocate Peter Russell asked for a probation report to be completed before sentencing, with input from a doctor.

Deputy High Bailiff Jayne Hughes ruled that the report should consider all options, including custody.

Bail was granted in the sum of £500 with conditions that Edge reside at her home address, contact probation, not drive, and not leave the island without the court’s permission.
