A teenager from Douglas has been fined £200 for being drunk and disorderly.

Shannon Anne Louise Bateson, of Hutchinson Square, was also ordered to pay £125 prosecution costs.

Prosecutor Michael Jelski told the court how police were called to Dalton Street in Douglas on February 25 at 2.05am.

Police were looking for 18-year-old Bateson after concerns for her welfare.

However, when they found the teenager she was swearing and shouted: ’Don’t come any closer. Back up.’

She continued swearing and shouting ’back up’ and was said to have tried to climb a garden rail.

She was arrested and said to be unsteady on her feet, had glazed eyes, and was slurring her words.

Defending Bateson in court, her advocate Paul Glover said: ’Ms Bateson informs me that shortly before the incident she had had an argument with her partner and was upset.

’She accept police were only doing their job. She felt she needed some space. She says she meant no harm and there were no threats of violence.’

The court heard that Bateson was currently subject to a community service order.

Deputy High Bailiff Jayne Hughes told her while passing sentence: ’You have an unenviable record for one so young but this is your first offence involving intoxication.’

No licensing ban was made.
