A teenager who had cannabis sent to him in the post has been sentenced.

Kyle Moore, of Faaie ny Cabbal, in Kirk Michael, admitted being concerned in the production of cannabis to the island and possession of the drug.

The 18-year-old appeared before High Bailiff Jayne Hughes for sentencing on Tuesday.

Moore was ordered to carry out 100 hours of community service and he was put on probation for 12 months.

We previously reported that the teenager was arrested after a package containing the drug was intercepted at the Post Office sorting office on April 26.

When opened, the package was found to contain a Rubik’s box game with two packages of cannabis bush hidden inside it.

The package was addressed to Moore at his home address. Numerous inquiries had been made by Moore to the post office as to the whereabouts of the parcel.

More cannabis was found during a search of the 18-year-old’s home.

Embroiled

In total the drugs were said to weigh 92.2 grams with a value of £1,844.

The court heard that Moore has no previous convictions.

Defence advocate Jim Travers said: ’There is a great deal of remorse for bringing the police to the door of his family home.

’In my submission, this young man probably didn’t appreciate how serious this was.

’It is perhaps fortunate the organiser hadn’t arranged for a more serious drug to be imported as he would have faced the consequences.

’Mr Moore naively became embroiled in the arrangement. The package was to be delivered to his home in his name. His role was to pass it on.’

Mr Travers added: ’This is a young man crying out for some probation assistance.

’He would only be likely to encounter more sinister and influential figures in the Isle of Man prison.’

He was ordered to pay £125 prosecution costs.
