A teenager was more than double the drink drive limit when he was found sprawled in the road after falling off his motorbike, a court was told.

To compound his misfortune, he was discovered by an off-duty policewoman after the accident which happened on Lezayre Road, only a short distance from his home soon after 3am.

Police were called to the scene and found 18-year-old Callum Robert Sayle sitting on the bike.

Prosecutor Mark Benson said a breath test produced a reading of 75, compared with a legal drink drive limit of 35.

Sayle told police he had been drinking in a pub in Ramsey before going back to a friend’s house but he had subsequently decided to ride home. He had lost control going round a bend at Glen Tramman.

Sayle, now of Gardener’s Lane, Ramsey, admitted riding without a licence and drink driving on February 19. He was banned for two years, must do 120 hours’ community service and pays £125 costs. He must take an extended driving test.
