A teenage shoplifter from Peel has been fined £100 for stealing cider and wine.

Alistair Mark Aubrey Flint, of Birch Drive, admitted the theft from Peel Shoprite in Michael Street.

Prosecuting advocate Roger Kane told the court how Flint, 17, was seen on CCTV footage on October 22 at 1.27pm taking two bottles of wine valued at £6 and a bottle of cider of unknown value.

Mr Kane said a compensation claim for £55 for CCTV footage provided had also been received from Shoprite.

Defence advocate Paul Glover asked for credit to be given for his client’s guilty plea and admissions made to police.

’It was a relatively minor offence,’ said the advocate. ’No force was used. He is sorry and would ask that the offence be dealt with by way of a financial penalty.’

Mr Glover said that Flint had recently started work and asked the court to bear in mind that Flint was a juvenile at the time of the commission of the offence.

Magistrates ordered the teenager to pay £61 compensation to Shoprite and £50 prosecution costs. He will pay at a rate of £25 per week.
