A teenager has been fined £350 for possessing £56-worth of cannabis.

Joshua Stanley Corrin admitted having 2.8 grams of the drug and was also ordered to pay £50 prosecution costs.

The court heard that police executed a search warrant at Corrin’s home on April 18.

The 18-year-old told officers there was some cannabis in a drawer.

Corrin, of Westbourne Drive, Douglas, was said to have been fined £500 in December 2019 and £900 in July 2020 for cannabis possession.

However, the July fine related to an offence dated April 24 which was later than the offence for which he was now appearing in court.

The court heard that the April 18 matter had only been passed to the Attorney General’s Chambers on August 7.

Defence advocate Paul Glover said it was not known why the April 18 matter was only coming to court now but asked for it to be taken into consideration when sentence was passed.

Mr Glover said that his client was still paying £100 per month in relation to his previous fines.

Deputy High Bailiff Chris Arrowsmith said that he was taking into account that the April 18 matter would have been dealt with as one matter, along with the April 24 offence, had it been before the court earlier.

But Mr Arrowsmith warned Corrin that, as he was paying fines until April 2021, the court may be unwilling to impose a fine for any future offences.
