A teenager from Castletown has been given a suspended sentence for two assaults on police officers.
Joshua Robert Hall, of Malew Street, denied the offences but was convicted after a trial.
The 18-year-old was sentenced to 24 weeks’ custody for each offence, to run concurrently, but suspended for two years.
He was also ordered to pay £600 prosecution costs and £200 compensation to each officer.
Hall was said to have attempted to bite one officer on the hand and struck a glancing blow on another.
The court heard that Hall had had a difficult upbringing.
The offences occurred on April 3, 2016, but it said that a summons had not been served for six months and then there had been not guilty pleas leading to a trial which explained the lengthy delay until sentencing.
Deputy High Bailiff Jayne Hughes said: ’Police officers should not be assaulted when going about their duty. You were 17 at the time, you should not have been drinking alcohol.’
Mrs Hughes went on to say that Hall had come across as ’polite and articulate’ during his trial and gave him credit for holding down a job for a year since the incident.
