A teenager who held up a knife during a row with his mother has been convicted of provoking behaviour.
Cameron Reekie, of Newtown Estate, Santon, pleaded guilty to the offence, as well as one of threatening to damage property.
He will be sentenced on October 15 after a probation report has been completed.
Prosecuting advocate Rachael Braidwood told the court that the incident took place on August 10 in the kitchen Reekie’s home address.
His mother had asked him to move some of his property away from the front of their house as the commissioners had given them 10 days to move it.
But the 18-year-old swore and told her: ’Don’t start with me. I’m in a bad mood.’
He then threatened to smash his mother’s iPad and phone before holding up a knife, which he had pulled from a block in the kitchen.
His mother told police she felt scared and upset during the incident.
When interviewed later Reekie told police he had never intended to hurt his mother, despite holding up the knife, but accepted she would have been scared.
Reekie said that although his mother had said he had been drinking he had only had a ’sip’ of Budweiser.
The teenager told police he could ’lose the plot’ and get frustrated at times but wanted help with his feelings and alcohol misuse.
The court heard that he has two previous convictions, for common assault and having a bladed article in a public place.
Defence advocate Stephen Wood asked for a probation report to be prepared before sentencing.
Magistrates ordered that the report consider all sentencing options, including custody.
Bail was granted in the sum of £500 with conditions that Reekie live at his home address and contact probation.
