A teenager has been jailed for six weeks after a row at Noble’s Hospital escalated.
Zachariah James Dean Moore, aged 18, of Albany Road, Douglas, punched a car and had to restrained by porters outside the hospital after rowing with his girlfriend inside.
He was jailed for six weeks for property damage and six weeks for provoking behaviour to run concurrently.
As we previously reported, on June 10, police were called to a domestic incident involving Moore and his girlfriend, which resulted in Moore being taken to hospital. He was followed there by his girlfriend with the row continuing.
The couple left the hospital but argued in the car park where the teenager had to be restrained by porters after kicking a car.
The case had been set to go to a Newton Hearing after Moore entered a basis of plea disputing the facts presented by the prosecution, saying that he had not thrown punches at porters during the row, but the teenager decided to withdraw that basis of plea.
Defending Moore in court his advocate Paul Glover said: ’Mr Moore is still a very young man. He turns 19 in about six weeks time. He understands he won’t receive maximum credit.
’He wants to apologise for his actions, his remorse is genuine. He has been going through some very deep problems we won’t raise in court, but are there in the probation report.
’But things are on the up for him. He has been working with Mental Health Services. He understands he has ongoing issues.
’There is ongoing work with Motiv8 too so he is speaking to the right people.’
Moore told probation he had consumed 10 cans of lager, half a bottle of wine and diazepam before the incident.
The court heard that Moore had been sentenced to 160 hours community service at the Court of General Gaol Delivery in March.
Deputy High Bailiff Jayne Hughes said while passing sentence: ’There was a difference in the facts and the case was heading for a Newton Hearing, but this wasn’t necessary because you contacted the court and indicated the facts were accepted. This delayed the sentence but did mean people didn’t have to come to court to give evidence.
’The hospital is where people go when they are unwell and not where they should expect to hear foul and abusive language. In your rage you punched, kicked and damaged a Renault Clio. It required three hospital porters to restrain you.
’You say you’ve been an idiot and upset a lot of people and that is the case. You clearly haven’t learned any lessons from the Deemster in March.’
