Two teenagers have pleaded guilty to drug-related charges.

Jordan Thomas Bayle, aged 19, of Saddle Road, Braddan, admitted possessing cannabis with intent to supply and possessing £2,781 relating to the proceeds of crime.

He will be sentenced at the Court of General Gaol Delivery on a date to be decided.

Ashley Elliot Lewis, also 19, of Woodbourne Road, Douglas, admitted possessing cannabis and was sentenced to a two-year conditional discharge, as well as being ordered to pay £125 prosecution costs.

The court heard how, at 9.30am on June 28, police attended the address in Buck’s Road, Douglas, and reported smelling cannabis there in the hallway.

They knocked on the door and Bayle answered. A strong smell of cannabis was said to be coming from inside Bayle’s home.

He admitted having cannabis in a drawer in his bedroom and pointed it out to police.

In the drawer was cannabis bush, a tick list and cash.

A search of the flat found cash totalling £2,781. Also found were snap bags and weighing scales.

In a second bedroom, occupied by Lewis, police also found cannabis.

Bayle gave a ’no comment’ interview while Lewis admitted smoking cannabis but denied any knowledge of drugs in the flat.

However, in a second interview Bayle admitted the cash was his and he got it by selling drugs.

The total weight of the cannabis found in Bayle’s room was 85 grams, said to be worth £1,700.

In Lewis’s room police found 15.3 grams, worth £306, but he claimed that only £40 to £50 of the drug was his in a basis of plea.

Lewis said he was working at the time and was not at the flat for long periods so he had no idea if Bayle or other parties had gone into his room.

Prosecutor James Robinson said that, while the plea was not accepted, he did not feel the difference over the amount would make a material difference to sentencing.

Bayle was committed to the Court of General Gaol Delivery, as any proceeds of crime can only be recovered by an order made in the higher court.

Deputy High Bailiff Jayne Hughes said that, but for the necessity to make that order, she was satisfied that her summary court powers would have been sufficient for sentencing.

He was granted bail in the sum of £500.
