A 23-year-old Douglas man has been fined £400 for being drunk and disorderly outside the Bordello nightclub.

Zachary Thomas Hardy admitted the offence and was also ordered to pay £125 prosecution costs by magistrates.

Prosecuting advocate Roger Kane told the court that police were at Bordello on October 17 at 1.50am.

Hardy, who lives on Central Promenade, approached them outside the club to make a complaint about another man who had been in the club.

However, while officers were talking to Hardy he saw the man and started staring at him and clenching his fists.

Hardy tried to go back into the club but was refused entry which prompted him to start swearing and shouting, aggressively pointing in the face of police.

He was warned about his behaviour and said he would leave if he could get his jacket.

Police got the jacket for him but Hardy was said to have continued being aggressive.

He was moved away from the club as police tried to calm him and even offered to give him a lift home.

However, he then saw the man he was angry with again and started shouting and swearing reaching out at him.

Hardy was pulled back by police and eventually put on the ground before being arrested.

Defence advocate Paul Glover said that the prosecution facts were accepted and asked for credit to be given for his client’s guilty plea.

’This is a situation where he simply should have left,’ said the advocate. ’Unfortunately that old mix of high emotions and alcohol has resulted in him being in court.’

Mr Glover went on to say that there had been no significant violence and that Hardy’s recollection of the incident was ’hazy’.

The advocate asked for Hardy to be spared a licensing ban saying he would lose his job as he worked at a petrol station which involved selling alcohol.

Magistrates chair Ken Faragher said: ’Had you listened to what you were told on the night then you wouldn’t be here. You were given opportunity to walk away but you chose not to.’

Hardy will pay the fine and costs at a rate of £100 per month.
