Two individuals were arrested for drink driving offences on Friday.
The Isle of Man Constabulary’s Twitter account confirmed the arrests and said it was ’ridiculous’.
One of the individuals arrested provided a positive breath sample after a crash which closed the Mountain Road on Friday afternoon.
That crash came minutes before Chief Minister Howard Quayle announced a new temporary 40mph speed limit for the island.
Any roads with speeds above 30mph will be subject to the 40mph limit, including the Mountain Road.
Road signs will not be changed to reflect the temporary measure, designed to reduce the number of people admitted to hospital following car crashes.
However the police have warned that officers will be patrolling in marked and unmarked cars.
Two people have been charged with drink driving and will appear in court on Monday.
