Two men have appeared in court in connection with an incident in which an elderly pedestrian was struck by a car taken without the owner’s consent.

Caleb Langton of Cronk y Berry, Douglas, and Karl Cameron of Mona Street, Douglas, appeared before Deputy High Bailiff Chris Arrowsmith yesterday (Monday).

Langton, 22, is charged with taking a vehicle without the owner’s consent and dangerous driving.

Cameron, 30, is facing charges of being carried in a car without the owner’s consent and being in possession of the class C drug Pregabalin.

No pleas were entered. Both sought bail, which was refused.

Prosecutor Rebecca Cubbon said police were called to the scene of a collision at Port Jack in Onchan just before midday on Saturday after an elderly man was hit by a black Mazda, which also collided with his car.

The elderly man was taken to Noble’s Hospital in Braddan for treatment to injuries to his left arm.

Members of the public tried to stop the occupants of the Mazda from driving away.

However, the car was later found on Victoria Street in Douglas.

The vehicle owner told police they had friends over and had not given permission for anyone to take her car.

The two defendants were remanded in custody to appear in court again on Tuesday next week at 10am.
