Police were twice called to the sorting office in December after class C drug diazepam was intercepted.

Both packages were addressed to Paul James Beattie, of Harbour Road, Onchan.

They were intercepted at the sorting office on December 12 and 24.

Beattie, aged 27, admitted two counts of production of diazepam and one charge of cannabis possession.

Prosecutor Rachael Braidwood told the court how police were called to the sorting office at Spring Valley Industrial Estate on December 12.

Suspicious

A suspicious package had been identified. When opened it was found to contain small blue pills identified as diazepam.

On December 24 a second similar package also addressed to Beattie was intercepted at the sorting office and found to contain more diazepam.

A search warrant was executed at Beattie’s home and cannabis was found in a bedroom.

When interviewed he told police the pills had been ordered from a friend in the UK and that he would pay by sending money to him.

Beattie said that when the first package had not arrived he had called his friend who had then sent the second package.

The cannabis was valued at £204 .

However, the value of the diazepam is yet to be confirmed.

Sentencing will take place on April 2 after a probation report has been prepared and the value of the diazepam has been confirmed.

Deputy High Bailiff Jayne Hughes accepted jurisdiction.

She ordered that the probation report consider all sentencing options including custody.

Beattie was granted bail in the sum of £500.
