Two women have been jailed after they were found guilty of an assault sparked by a Facebook row.

Sophie Margaret Callister, of Berrywoods Avenue, Governor’s Hill, Douglas, was sentenced to 10 weeks’ custody, while Amy Florence Thompson, of Claddagh Road, Sulby, received six weeks.

Callister was handed an additional four weeks, to run consecutively, after admitting drink-driving on Loch Promenade, Douglas.

The court heard that, Callister, who is 30, and Thompson, who is 27, went to their victim’s house on December 20, pulled her hair and kicked her while she was on the ground.

The assault was described by Deputy High Bailiff Jayne Hughes as an ’act of pre-meditated revenge’ over perceived comments made on Facebook.

Both women denied the offence but were found guilty after a trial.

Mrs Hughes said: ’There is no evidence of remorse from either of you. You are not sorry for the assault you inflicted.’

The drink-driving offence occurred on September 20 when police stopped Callister on Loch Promenade after concerns about her driving.

She failed a breath test with a reading of 84 - the legal limit is 35.

Defending Callister in court, advocate Rebecca Cubbon said: ’There had been some bad feeling for some time between the parties. She is remorseful. She didn’t need to go round to the house.’

In relation to the drink-drive charge, she said Callister had not eaten before having two drinks.

Thompson was represented by David Clegg, who said: ’Ms Thompson comes before the court as a person of previous good character. She has previously been the licensee of a public house and that option will no longer be available.’

He described what happened as ’a one-off incident’.

Mrs Hughes told them: ’I hope you have both learned a lesson. I very much doubt that you have.’

Both women were ordered to pay £500 compensation to the assault victim.
