A visitor has been banned from the island for five years after a fight in a pub during TT race week.

Colin Savage, of Youghal, County Cork, Ireland, was involved in a fight at Samuel Webbs, in Douglas, on June 5.

Savage, aged 26, admitted disorderly behaviour on licensed premises and was fined £600, and banned from entering licensed premises, and purchasing or being sold alcohol for six months.

Prosecutor Richard Butters told the court that Savage was at the bar when he became involved in a verbal and physical altercation with another man, which was caught on CCTV.

Footage showed Savage in the middle of a fight being restrained. He was said to have suffered an injury to his eye.

After being arrested Savage told police he could not remember much about the incident.

He said he had drunk about five pints that night but said that alcohol affects his memory.

CCTV footage was shown to him and he admitted he was disorderly and apologised.

Defence advocate Winston Taylor said: ’Mr Savage was frank with police. He is not sure how many pints he had but it was at least five.

’He was out with friends and things seemed to be okay. He doesn’t know how or why the incident occurred but he told me he was thoroughly ashamed for his behaviour.’

He was due to leave the island on Friday.

Magistrates ordered that Savage pay the fine forthwith or face 50 days in jail.

The five-year exclusion order will take effect after the period for any appeal has ended which is 28 days.
