A visitor has been fined £275 after racking up his 18th conviction for being drunk and disorderly.

Shu Nung Lok, from Westgate Road, Newcastle-upon-Tyne, was found asleep in Pizza Hut with his shoes on the wrong feet.

The 56-year-old was arrested after launching a tirade of abuse at police and was also banned from licensed premises for 12 months.

Prosecutor Rachael Braidwood told the court how, on April 4 at 8.10pm, police were called to the takeaway on Walpole Avenue in Douglas after a report of a drunken man being abusive.

Officers arrived and found Lok asleep at a table with his left shoe on his right foot and his right shoe on his left foot.

He was roused and police asked him to go outside to talk.

But once outside Lok launched his abuse.

He was restrained as he continued to use vile language and taken to police headquarters.

Once there, his rage continued as he continued to swear and said: ’You ginger ape,’ then started making monkey actions.

Lok continued, saying: ’If I had a gun I would shoot you.’

The court heard that Lok has 17 previous convictions for being drunk and disorderly from different parts of the UK.

Defence advocate David Clegg said: ’Mr Lok has little memory of yesterday. He states that he suffers from depression and he came to the Isle of Man hoping to apply for a work permit, hoping to make a fresh start.

’Obviously that’s not gone according to plan.

’He has asked me to apologise to the officers and anyone else offended by his behaviour.’

Mr Clegg went on to say that Lok had a friend in the island who was intending to help him find work.

’His friend offered to pay the fine on his behalf,’ said the advocate.

’Obviously Mr Lok has a problem and he does acknowledge that.’

Lok was also ordered by magistrates to pay £125 prosecution costs.

He must pay the fine and costs forthwith or face 14 days in custody in default of payment.
