A former Parish Walk winner has been put on probation after he spied on a couple having sex on a kitchen counter.
Vincent Lynch, of Head Road, Douglas, was caught peering through the woman’s window and was seen fumbling with his trousers when she went outside to confront him.
On another occasion, he had watched the woman getting out of her shower.
Lynch, aged 58, pleaded guilty to provoking behaviour and admitted he has a problem with voyeurism.
He was put on probation for three years in court this week.
High Bailiff Jayne Hughes warned Lynch that new sexual offences legislation was in the pipeline saying: ’It is likely there will be a specific offence of voyeurism and there are likely to be greater penalties.’
We previously reported that police were called to the woman’s home on December 2 after she reported seeing a man staring at her through her kitchen window as she had sex with a man on the kitchen counter.
She said she went outside to the car park and found Lynch, crouched down, looking into her flat.
The woman screamed and said that Lynch then looked as though he was fumbling with the lower half of his body.
Lynch then ran off through the exit to the car park.
The woman said that she recognised Lynch and had seen him several times previously looking into her apartment.
She said that on another occasion she got out of the shower and saw Lynch across the road peering in.
The woman went outside to the spot Lynch was standing, after he had gone, and said that she would have been visible from his position.
When arrested Lynch but gave ’no comment’ responses to all questions.
He was then put in an ID parade and was identified by the woman as the man who had been watching her.
Lynch won the joint winner of the Parish Walk in 2012.
In 2014, while at a different address, he was jailed for eight weeks for provoking behaviour after performing a sexual act in view of neighbours.
On Tuesday, defence advocate Paul Rodgers said: ’It is accepted this is a serious matter with aggravating features, those being the impact on the victim.
’There is also the relevance of alcohol. In mitigation, a doctor has confirmed a diagnosis of voyeurism and mental and behavioural disorders due to the use of alcohol.
’Mr Lynch has always been in full time employment and has excellent references. Sentencing has various purposes, punishment and rehabilitation, and in this case it is submitted the main purpose ought to be rehabilitation.
’That can only be with the long term involvement of probation.
’At 58 Mr Lynch has been living a law abiding life apart from this type of activity.
’He wants to work to curb his tendencies as much as he can. It’s recognised there needs to be regular input for the rest of his life. It’s women who are subjected to this offending. It’s accepted the victim has been deeply affected.’
Mrs Hughes told Lynch: ’Probation is not going to be an easy ride. You are going to have to address some unpleasant aspects of your character and come to terms with them.’
Lynch was also banned from licensed premises, and buying or being sold alcohol for 12 months.
