Police are asking all dog walkers in the island to be vigilant when letting their dogs off the lead in public places.

This follows reports of a quantity of potentially-tampered dog biscuits being left scattered on grassed areas in Tromode.

The biscuits have a slit down the middle for medication to be placed within.

Police say at this stage they don’t know if the biscuits were made like this, or had been adapted by an individual.

It is also unknown if anything had been placed into the biscuits, or if this was a deliberate act as opposed to someone innocently dropping treats on the floor.

A dog subsequently ate some of the biscuits and as a precaution is with the vets for testing and if necessary treatment.

Anyone who can help police with this inquiry is asked to contact Constable Elliot Butler at Douglas police headquarters on 631212.
