Umut Demir, aged 29, of Loch Promenade, Douglas, has admitted possessing an offensive weapon.
The offence was committed at Star Grill on Marina Road, Douglas on November 23.
The prosecution allege the weapon was a knife while Demir says it was a knife sharpener.
Magistrates said that a Newton Hearing to settle the dispute will be held on April 12.
