A 17-year-old who showed off by doing wheelies on a motorcycle has been punished by a court.

Owen Robert John Reed, of Spring Valley Road, Douglas, was banned from driving for six months after admitting having no insurance, not wearing a crash helmet, and a licence offence.

He was fined a total of £500.

Prosecutor Roger Kane told magistrates that, on May 13 at 5.30am, a witness reported seeing Reed with a man at Battery Pier, South Quay, in Douglas.

Reed was said to be riding a Honda motorcycle around the car park there performing wheelies.

He was not wearing a helmet, had no insurance and had not passed a compulsory basic training test.

Reed was later told police: ’I didn’t go far, just round the car park. I’ve learnt my lesson before, I already have eight points.’

He accepted that the car park was a public road.

Defence advocate Matthew Wilshaw said: ’Mr Reed was in the car park with friends. He has been offered a ride on a friend’s bike and has been riding around the car park pulling wheelies. He fully accepts the car park was a public road.

The court heard that Reed had previously been disqualified for dangerous driving.

He was fined £400 for having no insurance and given four penalty points which meant he was disqualified under the totting up process.

He was fined £50 for not wearing a helmet, £50 for the licence offence, and must pay £50 prosecution costs.
