A man who assaulted his wife has been remanded in custody after breaching his bail conditions banning him from contacting her.

Rui Filipe Monteiro Ramos, of Cullyn Link, Anagh Coar, swore at High Bailiff Jayne Hughes after she refused him bail and shouted: ’I don’t care. You can’t judge me, only God can judge me’ as he was led away to custody.

Ramos, who is 24, had previously been granted bail but was arrested again on December 27 after police received a ’999’ call from his wife saying he was at her address shouting and acting aggressively.

We previously reported that Ramos was initially arrested on November 12 after his wife called police while he was collecting some belongings from her address.

Lunged

She said that he was agitated and had then lunged at her grabbing her by the throat and pinning her against a wall.

He then kicked a mirror worth £200, smashing it before grabbing his wife by the throat again.

Ramos left the property but told the woman: ’You’re getting everything you deserve. If the kids weren’t here it would have been worse.’

The woman locked him out of the house but he then began kicking the door and telling her she should cut herself.

Police arrived to find him still outside the house and he resisted as they tried to arrest him, tensing up and making his arms rigid.

Ramos then swore at officers.

He was put on the ground but one officers was said to have suffered a broken finger during the struggle.

At police headquarters Ramos admitted the assault saying that the marriage had been breaking down.

He said: ’Take me to jail, that’s where I belong, either that or dead.’

He said he had gone to the house to get his personal belongings and that he might have ’smacked her’ if the kids had not been there.

Report

Ramos told police: ’I’m an idiot. I’m sorry to everyone.’

He admitted offences of common assault on a female, destroying property, and resisting arrest.

He is due to be sentenced on January 21 after a probation report has been completed.

Ramos also has a conviction in May for an assault on his wife and that a probation order is currently in place in respect of that.

Defence advocate James Peterson asked for Ramos to be bailed saying that his client was able to reside with his parents.

However, High Bailiff Mrs Hughes refused to grant bail.
